Junko teaches our Japenese Ink Painting (sumi-e) courses.

Junko began learning shodo – traditional Japanese calligraphy – at the age of 5. Her calligraphy teacher is Shiro Aoyagi, the founder of the Hokuriku Shodo Academy and also one of Japan’s most respected calligraphy masters who has work in the NGV’s permanent collection.

Junko is an award-winning artist, receiving the Best New Artist Prize and the North Japan Press Prize in the Hokuriki Japanese Calligraphy Exhibition in Japan in 2007. She has exhibited widely in Japan and Australia, and her work, Bamboo Grove and the dragonfly, is also in the permanent collection at the National Gallery of Victoria. She has been teaching in Melbourne since 2005, and we are very fortunate to have her in our group of talented teachers!
